Target Audience/Audience Research

The target audience of our project is an interesting one as we are merging two popular genres into one. Grime and Dubstep have been increasingly popular amongst the youths and young adults in this generation and our music video will aim to target both of these audiences. The unification of these two genres has been produced and performed before on a few occasions and went well. We believe it could be successful and something a wide range of people can relate and listen to this music.

Having carried out this questionnaire and collected the results and recorded the results in graph and table form, I have learnt a number of things regarding my target audience which I will think about when producing my Music Video, as well as my Album Cover and Magazine Advertisement.

Firstly, having looked at the results, the majority of those interviewed are young (15-20 year old) males who enjoy listening to Dubstep music. Also, the most common way they acquire music is through iTunes and Apple's App Store. A vast majority of them listen to music on YouTube and a similar number of those surveyed also use social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter. This is useful as this can be a way in which the audience can contact the band when enquiring about tickets for the advertisement I will produce. As a large number of people use social networking websites, it is convenient for them to contact the band through these social networking websites.
When asked whether the audience prefer a narrative or a performance in a music video, the same number of people who preferred a narrative, would have preferred to see a performance music video. After discussing this point we came to an agreement that a narrative would be a better idea as a performance of an unknown and undeveloped band wouldn't attract many people. Finally, when asking the audience if they like to see band members on the album or CD cover, the majority said yes but taking into account that the audience like seeing established and well known artists I decided not to use band members on the front cover of the website.
